S4-3 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation FIELD ENHANCEMENT n Patran will import an externally defined excel spreadsheet (in CSV format) into a Patran Field spreadsheet. u Accessible from Input Data form in Create Field form u Data may be separated by commas, semi-colons, tabs or spaces u Data must be arranged in columns, with one column for each independent variable and one column for the dependent variable. n Patran will also export the field spreadsheet out to an external excel spreadsheet. u Accessible from Input Data form by selecting CSV Export option.
S4-4 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation n An options menu allows you to set the separator and whether to read the first line or write column headings n Import completely replaces what is in the current spreadsheet n Export writes everything in the current spreadsheet n CSV files written on Windows are incompatible with UNIX unless the ctrl M's are removed from each line. IMPORT / EXPORT
S4-5 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation IMPORT / EXPORT FORMS n All Fields spreadsheet input forms now have a new "Import/Export..." button in the upper right u with the exception of complex data tables
S4-6 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation IMPORT / EXPORT FORMS n Both Import and Export options allow for various types of delimiters.
S4-7 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation IMPORT / EXPORT FORMS n The first line of a file may be ignored by selecting the check box on the Import Options form. u Useful for files which have titles listed as the first entry of each column.
S4-8 PAT328, Section 4, September 2004 Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation INCOMPLETE DATA n Data must be entered completely u If data is entered for a Y value at one X value, then data must be entered at that Y value for every X value. u This extends to three dimensions. Data must be entered for every value if entered for a single value. u In the example below, the data is incomplete since there is no information at x=1 or x=2 for Y=40. X,Y,Value E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E E+000, E+001, E+001 The value for x = 1, y = 40 and x = 2 and y = 40 are missing. They will be set to the value specified on import.
