PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-1 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation SECTION 16 MATERIALS
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-2 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-3 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation MATERIALS l Material property information is specific to the analysis code selected l Material model is a named group of individual properties l Materials can have multiple constitutive models (e.g. Elastic, Plastic, and Creep material properties, all assigned to one material name) l Material data can be obtained directly from the MSC/MVISION material database through the Materials Selector l Materials can be defined to vary as a function of temperature, strain, strain rate, time and/or frequency
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-4 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation MATERIAL PROPERTY CREATION l Material properties are entered in an easy to use template customized to the selected analysis code l Variable properties are defined using fields l Various constitutive models can be activated for a given analysis
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-5 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation CREATING A MATERIAL l Three methods can be used to specify material properties l Manual Input (i.e. enter k, Cp, in the forms) l Material Selector (i.e. import material data from MSC/MVISION) l Externally Defined (i.e. create the material name label only) l Existing materials may be used as a template to create new materials l Change Material Status is used to activate/deactivate constitutive models
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-6 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation MATERIAL PROPERTY INPUT l First, the constitutive model of interest must be selected l The property value data boxes are customized for the analysis code and the constitutive model used l When an input databox allows a field definition, the field list box will appear l Newly created constitutive models are active default. However, any constitutive model can be deactivated.
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-7 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation ACTIVATING/DEACTIVATING MATERIAL MODELS l Click on the button to obtain the form shown l Existing constitutive models of a material will appear in either the Active or Inactive list boxes l Selection of the constitutive model from a list box would move it to the other list box. (e.g. form Active to Inactive)
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-8 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation DELETE OR MODIFY MATERIALS l Any created material property may be modified or deleted l The material constitutive model status may be changed from one analysis to another (linear to non- linear)
PAT312, Section 16, December 2006 S16-9 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation SHOW MATERIAL PROPERTIES l Created material properties can be verified using the Show Action l Material properties are shown in tabular form l Material compliance or stiffness matrices can be shown
