3 PAT312, Section 43, December 2006 S43-3 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation ADVECTION HEAT TRANSFER A bulk motion of fluid associated heat transfer Modeled using advection bar elements The heat transferred by advection. Q = mass flow rate * specific heat of fluid * (T Node 1 - T Node 2 ) Advection is a one-way resistor Flow is from upstream to downstream node Node 1 to Node 2 on Bar element Bars meshed on curves will flow in the curve C1 direction Advection data is entered from Element Properties Form Define mass flow in Properties not as an LBC
4 PAT312, Section 43, December 2006 S43-4 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation FLOW DIRECTION Curve parametric direction indicated Element connectivity direction follows parametric direction Connectivity shown by order of nodes in Show/Element/Attributes
5 PAT312, Section 43, December 2006 S43-5 Copyright 2007 MSC.Software Corporation ADVECTION ELEMENT PROPERTIES Enter MPID defining the specific heat of the fluid flowing through the advection bar (required) Enter mass flow rate of the fluid. If no mass flow, MPID is entered then this value is taken as constant mass flow rate. Enter optional mass flow rate MPID for variable mass flow rate. If mass flow rate is also entered, it is taken as a scale factor.
