1 1 Zhambyl Region Region is located in the south of the country. As of January 1, 2012 the area is thousand square kilometers, the region's population is 1056 thousand people (6.3% of RK population). Density of population over the region per 1 km is 7.3 people. Resource base includes the rich reserves: gas, coal, barium ore, gold concentrate, phosphate raw materials, copper ore, salt, materials for building industry and etc. Administrative-territorial structure of the region includes the city of regional subordination Taraz, 3 cities of district subordination: Karatas, Zhanatas, Shu, and 10 districts. The main socio-economic indicators of the region for 2011 are provided in the table. 1 Demography: Regions population is growing. 2 The number of employed population increases and unemployed population falls in both absolute and relative terms. For 10 years, from 2001 to 2011, the employed population has increased from 87 to 95%, while the number of unemployed people has fallen from 13 to 5%. Characteristic feature of the employed population dynamics is the reduction of hired labor and the growth of self- employed people. From 2001 to 2011 the number of hired labor has fallen from 49% to 48%, the number of self- employed people has increased from 51 to 52%: 2 EAP of the region is increasing at a moderate pace and in 2011 it reached thousand people. 557 thousand people are employed, 32.4 thousand people are unemployed. 3 Unemployment Level The changes of employed population structure are supported by a strong tendency of unemployment rate reduction from 14.4% in 2000 to 5.5% in 2011 and growth of the economic activity of the population: 3 In 2011 unemployment rate of the region was slightly above the average in Kazakhstan – 5.4%:
4 4 Quality of Life Cost of living has been growing steadily since 2003, however, the values are below the average in RK: Share of population with income used for consumption below the poverty line is decreasing and it is below the average in Kazakhstan since 2010: Life expectancy at birth in the region is increasing and the values are slightly above the average in Kazakhstan: Some of life quality indicators in 2011:
5 Enrollment share of the population aged 6-24 years has increased since 2001 and since 2010 it is above the average in RK: 5 Enrollment The number of students in technical and vocational education was increasing till 2010, decreased in 2011, despite an increase of regions population: The number of children in regular preschools has increased since 2001: The number of students in higher education has been growing steadily after the decrease in :
6 Population Income Population Income Monthly average nominal salary per employee for 2011 is 61,825 Tenge, that is below the countrys average – 90,028 Tenge: In the dynamics the average nominal salary per employee and the average nominal income per capita are ever-growing. The index of the nominal and real incomes showed a decline during the crisis in : 6
7 Economy GRP of the region and its share in total GRP of all the regions has grown since 2000: GRP growth in 2011 significantly exceeded the average growth of total GRP of all the regions of Kazakhstan and makes up 142.1% compared to 2010, against the total value of RK %: 7
8 Investment Fixed assets investment was growing up to 2009, thereafter it started falling from maximum 223 billion Tenge in 2009 to 107 billion Tenge in 2011: The growth of fixed assets investment in 2011 havent exceed the total average level in RK regions and made up the negative value of 72.6%: 8 The share of fixed assets investment in the Kazakhstans level of investment repeats this tendency, falling from 4.9% in 2009 to 2.1% in 2011:
9 Agriculture The volume of agriculture production was increasing till 68.5 billion Tenge in 2010: 9 The share of the regions volume of production in agriculture in total Kazakhstans volume of industrys production. In % of countrys production in agriculture was manufactured in the region:
10 Real Sector The growth of industrial production volumes was observed throughout the study period, excluding crisis years 2009 and 2010, when manufacturing volumes showed the decrease: 10 The share of industrial production in the Kazakhstans level has decreased from 1.4% in 2000 to 1.2% in 2011: Real sector industries with the highest values of production in 2010 are agriculture, construction, chemical industry, production of food products, production and distribution of electricity and etc. These industries have the significant share in the total production volume of RK and regions GRP:

13 13 Budget revenues of Zhambyl region in 2011 amounted to trillion Tenge, including trillion Tenge of transfers from the national budget. 14 Zhambyl Region Development Program for Main target indicators: Real GRP growth in 2015, compared to the level in 2010, shall be 150% (in %); An increase of the share of the manufacturing industry in GRP by 2015 to 15.6%; Volume index of the manufacturing industry, compared to the previous year in 2015, shall be 107.5%; An increase of the labor productivity in the manufacturing industry by 2015 by 1.4 times; An increase of the share of non-resource exports in total exports by 2015 to at least 91%; Reduction of the energy intensity of GRP at least by10% from 2008 level by 2014; An increase of the share of local content in the procurement of government agencies and organizations, strategic companies - for procurement of goods up to 64% ( %); An increase of the share of local content in the procurement of government agencies and organizations, strategic companies for the procurement of works and services to more than 90.5% in 2015 ( %); The share of output of the chemical industry in GRP in 2015 shall rise to 5.6% ( %); Volume index of chemical production shall increase by 2.6 times by 2015; Chemical industry volume index in 2015 shall be 118.1% compared to 2014; Exports of chemical products in 2015 shall increase by 1.5 times; An increase of the labor productivity in the chemical industry by 2015 to 5.9 million Tenge/person; The share of oil production in GRP in 2015 shall be 0.2% ( %); Gross agricultural output volume index in 2015 compared to 2014 level shall be 104.2% or 83.2 billion Tenge; Export potential of the agricultural sector in total exports in 2015 shall increase to 24.1%; An increase of the labor productivity in agriculture by 2015 shall be thousand Tenge/person; An increase of the number of active SMEs per 1,000 inhabitants in 2015 to 40 units; Life expectancy years in 2015 ( years).
