Tea Culture of different countries Carried out by Elkin Pavel form 3«B» Municipal Budget Establishment Secondary School 37 with advanced teaching of English Yaroslavl
The aim of my work is: looking at tea drinking as a way to unit people from different countries
Method: I compare Britain, Russian, American and Turkish tea cultures. Also I analyse my classmates` and Russian people`s habits of tea drinking.
Britain Tea Culture Britain is a tea-drinking nation. Tea is Britan`s favourite drink, so they have tea for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner and supper. Some families have two or three cups of tea at teatime. Tea was first introduced to Great Britain in the 1610 but only by the late eighteenth century Britain became the centre of the world tea business and the tradition of taking afternoon tea began. Afternoon tea is a pot of tea, and a light snack (perhaps some small sandwiches and a piece of cake) served around 5 oclock in the afternoon. Traditional British tea is black, strong and served in a mug with milk and sugar. But nowadays it is not uncommon to drink it green or with lemon.
The traditional recipe of English tea is: 1. Boil some fresh cold water. 2. Put some hot water into the teapot to make it warm. 3. Pour the water away. 4. Put one teaspoon of tea-leaves per person, and one extra tea-spoon, into the pot. 5. Pour boiling water onto the tea. 6. Leave for a few minutes. 7. Serve with milk and sugar.
Russian Tea Culture Tea is a part of Russian culture. It was introduced to Russia in Traditionally people made it using a samovar, a symbol of hospitality and comfort. Russian people drink sweet tea with lemon, milk, honey or jam.Traditionally, black tea is the most common tea in Russia, but green and red teas are popular too. When its time to serve, Russians place a very small amount of tea, followed by hot water, into a cup or a thick drinking glass with a metallic glass-holder.
American Tea Culture In the South United States, tea can be served at all meals. About 80% of the tea there is served cold, or iced. It is usually sweet and served in a tall glass with lemon or raspberry. We often can find American iced tea in bottled form in shops. In the north of USA people usually drink hot tea. One more American tea is sun tea. It is made by placing tea and water together in a glass jar left outdoors in direct sunlight. Steeping time is long, about a few hours.
Turkish Tea Culture The biggest tea-drinking country of our planet is Turkey. Turks make tea using a double tea pot. Water is boiled in the large pot and the loose-leaf tea is steeped in the small pot. It helps to make tea strong, or light with lots of water added. Turks drink tea from small tulip-shaped glasses which allow to see the colour of tea. It is usually served with a lot of sugar and no milk.
Tea preferences of Russian people
Tea preferences of my classmates and friends
Conclusion Millions of people from all over the world love to drink tea. According to my research we see how close Russian people to all those nations through their tea culture. Indeed we love English tea with milk and strong sweet Turkish Tea, we love cold American tea and Russian tea with lemon.
Resume Tea traditions are very different, but the aim is always the same: tea is a way to unit people. We all can sit around one big table and drink tea together - for peace and love on Earth!
