2 Tatarstan is situated in the Eastern part of the East European Plain at the confluence of two biggest rivers – the Volga and the Kama.

5 The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the most multinational territories of Russia, being home to more than 115 nationalities, the population of eight of which is more than ten thousand people: Tatars (more than two million people or 52.9%), Russians (about 1.5 million people or 39.5%), Chuvashes (126,500 people or 3.4%), Mordvinians, Udmurts, Mari and Bashkirs.

6 Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, one of the largest and most beautiful cities of Russia, which is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage cities.

7 The main wealth of Tatarstan is oil, the stock of which is about one billion tons a year. Tatarstan has a powerful industry, a developed agriculture. We grow wheat, rye, oats, potatoes, sugar beet and other crops in our republic.

8 Today, the Republic is a world class center of cultural life. Many important sports events take place in Kazan.
