3 History of Barcelona process The Barcelona Process begins in 1995 attended by 15 EU members and 12 countries of the Mediterranean Basin vision: will to give to future euro-med relations a new dimension, based on comprehensive cooperation and solidarity will to strengthened political dialogue, develop the economic and financial cooperation and emphasize the the social, cultural and human dimension. 4 Dialogue B a c k g r o u n d Political, economic, and cultural spheres Political sphere: Common area of peace and stability through the reinforcement of political and security dialogue. Economical sphere: Zone of shared prosperity through an economic and financial partnership and the gradual establishment of a free trade zone. Cultural sphere: The rapprochement between peoples through a social, cultural and human partnership.

8 Dialogue B a c k g r o u n d Barcelona Process the development of the cultural sphere Following the launch of the Barcelona Partnership in 1995, a range of regional networks emerged. Examples include: Euro-Med Human Rights Network (est. 1997), to support and publicise universal principles of human rights as expressed by Barcelona Declaration Euro-Med Heritage, (est. 1998) promoting and protecting the material and immaterial heritage of Mediterranean countries Euro-Med Youth Platform (est. 2003), supporting networking between young people and youth associations COPEAM, a forum of exchange of know-how and active cooperation between audio-visual operators
