2 Shakira is well known all over the world as a Latin Pop singer/songwriter. Over the years, she has won multiple awards and has even been a judge on the hit show, The Voice!

3 Shakira was born on Febuary 2 nd, 1977 in Barranquila, Columbia.

4 As a child, Shakira grew up around with her brothers and sisters from her Fathers previous marriage. She was raised by her Mother and her Father, Nidva Del Carmen Ripoll Torrado and William Mebarack Chadid.

5 When Shakira was young, she would watch her father write stories on his typewriter. She was fascinated about the typewriter. Eventually, Shakira asked for a typewriter for Christmas. When she was gifted the typewriter, she started to write poetry (age 7). These poems evolved into songs. When Shakira was 2 years old, one of her older brothers, was killed in a motor cycle accident, which inspired her to write her first song, Tus gafas oscuras, also known as, Your dark glasses which her father wore dark glasses to hide his grief after her brother died.

6 When Shakira was 4 years old, her father took her to a local Middle Eastern restaurant, where she heard the traditional drum used in Arabic Music which typically accompanied belly dancing. She started dancing on the table, and the expirience lit a spark; she realized she wanted to be a performer. She enjoyed singing for schoolmates and teachers at her Catholic School.
