1 Baranovichy Travel Guide Baranovichy is a city in western-central Belarus in Brest Oblast. It is 6 largest city in the country. Baranovichy is large railway junction and university city.
2 Baranovichy was first mentioned in originally called Baranowicze as a private property of a Polish family named Rozwadowski. In 18 century it became a Russian territory in effect of Partitions of Poland. Village started to grow and became a town. In 1897 its population was inhabitans. During the Polish-Soviet war it was reclaimed by Poland. In 1919 it received the city rights. In 1921 population of Baranowicze had grown to % of them were Jews, the rest - Belarusians, Poles, Russians. In 1939 Baranovichy had inhabitans and was one of the largest cities in Nowogrodek Voivodship. During the World War II city became a part of Soviet Union and Belorusian SSR. In 1991 Baranovichi became a part of independent Belarus.

4 Oldest bank in Baranovichy locates on Savetskaya street. The name of it is Polish bank. Bank was opened here in 1930-s, when Baranovichy was a Polish city. Today this building nicely restored.

6 Railway as important part of city life and history. There is large railway museum created in Baranovichy. It is open-air museum. This museum should be visited by every visitor of the city. There are exhibited different models of trains, railway cars and mashines related to raiway. It is possible to walk in the museum alone or visit it with a guide. Guided tours iclude visits to railway cars. An amazing thing about this museum that visit to museum is free.

8 Lenin square is a main and most significant square in Baranovichy. It is the heart of the city, it locates on the cross of Lenin and Sovietskaya streets. Square is surrounded by nice buildings from Soviet era. They are - building of city government, opposite building with offices, cinema. Monument of Vladimir Lenin stands on the square. Lenin square is a place of celebrations and parades.

10 St. Zhen-mironosits church in Baranovichi is probably nicest and newest orthodox church in the city. It locates in the centre of the city. In 2001 field for building of the church was given. In 2002 building works blessed by Russian patriarh Aleksij II were started. 5 years later the temple was completed. 13 cupolas tower over the church. They symbolize Jesus and apostles

12 Church on Kuybysheva street is one of four Catholic churches in Baranovichi. It is a wooden temple built in Preserved to nowadays. Church looks nice, has a baroque tower. Holy masses on Belarusian and Polish languages.

14 Piously-Pokrovsk cathedral is one of historical sites in the city. The church was built in 1931 in neoclassical style. Art advantages of a temple are 7 mosaic compositions on pediments and in an interior, transported from destroyed Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky in Warsaw. Warsaw orthodox cathedral were destroyed by Polish authorities and it was possible to rescue mosaics and forward a part to Baranovichi. In the Piously-Pokrovsk cathedral the Sunday school for adults and children operates.

16 Cafe Osminozhka is an oldest milk bar in Baranovichy. It locates in the basement floor of one of the houses in the centre of the city. Throughout times Osminozhka was very popular among youth. Very tasty desserts are in offer - cakes, ice creams, milk and ice cream coctails. Favorite Dish: Milk bar has interesting sea thematic half-blind blue coloured interior and good atnospheare. There is large aquarium with fishes and turtles. Aquarium is great attraction for children, but also for adults. Restaurants

18 Biskvit - bisquit is a milk bar on the Lenin square in the centre of the city. Biskvit is nice modern "european-style" cafe that has modern interior - light coloured walls, TV on the wall, large window with the view to the square. You can eat in Bisvit different ice cream, cakes, drink milk coctails, tea or coffee.

20 Transportation Baranovichy has good system of city public transport. The only tipes of public city transport are busses and taxi. Many buses are new and modern and all produced in Belarus - MAZ. These new buses look pretty nice. About half or less are old busses like Ikarus. Buses are driving between different city parts. Bus tickets are very cheap.

22 Soviet architecture There is no old town in the city - old architecture from Polish times is not preserved till now. Old Baranowicze was destroyed during the wars like many other cities in Europe. At the time of Soviets the city developed and grew in Soviet style. Districts with blocks were created, but in the centre of Baranovichy lots of nice examples of typical USSR buildings were created. Just neoclassical style is presented.
