3 Shakespeares live can be divided into three periods; the first 20 years in Stratford, which include his schooling and early marriage; the next 25 years as an actor and a playwright in London; and the last 5 years in retirement back in Stratford.
4 EARLY YEARS OF THE WRITER. William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, a small country town. His father, John Shakespeare, was a glove maker and a wool merchant. William attended the local grammar school in Stratford where he studied primarily Latin, both spoken and written.
5 PERSONAL LIFE. In 1582, at the age of 18, William married Anne Hathaway, a local girl who was eight years older than him. They had three children together: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith.
6 LONDON AND THEATRICAL CAREER Scholars believe that Shakespeare left Stratford 'for London in 1586 or 1587 and joined a company of actors. In 1592 he was already a famous playwright. By that time he had written his plays Henry VI and Titus Andronicus.
7 In 1594 Shakespeare joined Londons leading theatre company, the Lord Chamberlains Company, renamed later as the Kings Men. Shakespeare wrote many great plays for the group. In 1599 the Kings Men built a new theatre, the Globe. It was built on the south bank of the river Thames.
8 GLOBE THEATRE FACTS The Globe was built as a large, round, open air theatre. There was a roof around the circumference which covered the seating area, leaving the theatre looking like a doughnut from above. The Globe had three stories of seating and was able to hold up to 3000 spectators in it's 100 foot diameter.

10 ROMEO AND JULIET (1595) Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a story about two teen-aged lovers whose families hate each other.
11 Othello Othello is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in Hamlet Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602.

13 At the end of his life Shakespeare returned to Stratford where he had a house. The greatest playwright lived as a country gentleman and was no longer involved with the London theatre.
14 HE DIED ON APRIL 23,1616 AND WAS BURIED IN HOLY TRINITY CHURCH IN STRATFORD.
15 LITERARY HERITAGE Shakespeare wrote about 38 plays, 154 sonnets and many other poems. His works have been translated into many languages, and his plays are continually performed all over the world.
