1 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien
2 J.R.R. Tolkien wrote popular books of fantasy fiction. The most famous of his books are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.fiction
3 Tolkien was born on the third of January 1892 in South Africa in the family of the English bank manager.
4 His father Arthur Tolkien died when John was 4 and his mother Mable died when he was 14. So John and his brother Hilary were brought up by a priest.
5 Tolkien had a great talent in learning languages. In 1900 Tolkien started going to King Edward's school. There he learned the ancient English language and began studying Welsh and the ancient Norwegian language.
6 Then he studied in St. Philip's school and in 1915 he graduated from Oxford University.
7 In 1925 Tolkien began teaching at Oxford. His classes dealt with the roots of the English language. He studied old fables, myths, and legends.
9 During this time Tolkien began writing fantasy stories. Part of this writing included making up an entire language called Elvish. The characters called elves in Tolkien's stories speak this language.
10 In 1912 John Tolkien married Edit Brett and they lived happy together for 56 years and brougth up 3 sons and a daughter.
11 During the First World War John Tolkien served as a Lieutenant, but he fell ill and was sent back home to England.

21 The ONE RING is the most mysterious and universal, uniting all the rest of the rings. It is a symbol of EVIL and POWER. In Tolkien's concepts POWER and EVIL are inseparable. It is with this fabulously mythological image Tolkien embodies the idea of the novel.
22 The Image Of The Elves Elves are wise beings, able to foresee the future, to transform, to understand the language of animals. Rings of the elves embody the power of three elements - fire, air and water.
23 The Image of Nazguli Nazguli is a symbol of lust after power, darkness, ambition. Kings and commanders often become slaves of the ring. After receiving the ring their souls blacken.
24 The Image of The Orcs Orcs is a symbol of enslavement and torment. They suffer working in mines and cutting down trees.
25 The Image of The Ents Ents is a symbol of freedom. They are alive trees, which look after the forests. No one has the power over them.
26 The Image of The Magician Gandalf is a powerful magician, the symbol of justice.
27 The Image of The Hobbits Hobbits prefer the quiet, peaceful existence, appreciate family life.
28 Tolkien died on September 2, He had started another book about Middle-earth, called The Silmarillion, but did not finish it.
29 Tolkien's youngest son, Christopher, published this book in 1977.
30 Tolkien's works have a great importance for the world culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. They were adapted for films, movies, theatre and computer games.
