3 Mark Twain Mark Twain was born in Missouri in He never finished elementary school. He got his education mainly from his observations of people and events on the western bank of the Missouri River.
4 Mark Twain He was only eleven when his father died and he soon began working as a printers apprentice and contributor of funny sketches.
5 Mark Twain When he was 18 he left the town to work in New York, Philadelphia and some other large cities as a printer.
6 Mark Twain In 1871, he married and moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he wrote his two masterpieces, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
7 The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In 1876 he wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. This book became popular not only with kids but also with adults. It was translated nearly into every language in the world.
8 The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The book was such a success that in 1884 he wrote The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Later he also wrote Tom Sawyer Abroad, Tom sawyer the Detective etc.

10 Mark Twain Mark Twain travelled a lot. While being on the voyage to New Orleans he met Horace E. Bixby, who was a steamboat pilot and who later inspired a young author to become a pilot too. He soon obtained a steamboat pilot license. Until 1861 he worked as a pilot. He also persuaded his brother Henry to work together.
11 Mark Twain In 1858 Henry died in steamboat explosion. It was known that Mark Twain foresaw this accident in his dream.
12 Mark Twain Because of his sense of humor and wit and the style with which he wrote about frontier life of the common people in the American West, many people feel that Twains books marked the beginning of modern American literature.

14 Biography Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)was born in Mark Twain- it is his pen name. He was the sixth of seven children. At the age of 4 Sam and his family moved to the small town of Hannibal and lived in the state of the Missouri on the banks of the Mississippi.
15 In 1847 when Sam was 11 his father died. He left school and began to work as a printers apprentice for a newspaper. His job allowed Sam to read the news of the world.
16 At 18 Sam headed east to New York City and Philadelphia where he worked on several different newspapers and found some success at writing articles.
