London Zoo is the oldest zoo in the world. It was opened in 1828!
The Zoo is open every day from 9 oclock in the morning till 7 oclock in the evening.
More than 15,000 animals live in the Zoo today.
People brought many animals from other zoos and many animals were born in London Zoo.
If you like animals very much and want to take care of some of them you can adopt an animal. There will be your name near its cage and you have to give money or buy food for your animal. The London Perl Mongers were the first group to adopt a local camel when they donated to the London Zoo.
Dont forget that rhinos and elephants eat a lot! During the day an elephant eats hay, grass cabbage, carrots, apples, potatoes, bread, salt and vitamins and drinks 100 litres of water!
In the Moonlight World there are animals that sleep during the day and wake up in the night. It is very dark there and people can see how these animals live.
In the Childrens Zoo there are many pets and farm animals. You can see pigs, cows, sheep and horses there. Zoo keepers show children how to milk a cow. They give the milk to the other animals of the Zoo.
In summer you can ride a pony, donkey or camel in the Zoo. You can see how keepers give food to snakes, lions and penguins.
London Zoo is very interesting place to visit!
