The purpose of this presentation is to also show the audience where you can get Intranet and Extranet and what are the ranges in cost that you can purchase them.

3 Intranet & Extranet An intranet is an internal company network that uses the Internet standards of HTML (HyperText markup Language) and HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) communications protocol along with a graphical Web browser to support business applications and provide departmental, interdepartmental, and companywide communications solutions. An extranet is a collaborative network that links multiple intranets. For example, an extranet may link the intranets of a producer and a supplier. The intranets may link across the Internet (using a security protocol) or through privately owned or leased lines.

4 Intranet/Extranet E This picture shows a collection of computers forming an intranet. These computers are linked into the intranet and can only communicate with each other. The intranet may sometimes be connected to the outside world via a firewall. This allows protected access to the rest of the internet world wide.

There are also many other companies pushing toward standards for Extranet applications. What we have seen so far is just the beginning... According to a recent research survey of 50 Fortune 1000 network managers, 54% of the companies plan to use Extranets for partner communication and 66% for transactions in the next two years. The study predicts that US business to business transactions will grow from 4.3 million in 1997 to over 120 million in This software consists of on-demand applications that run across networks and operating systems, and is based entirely on open Internet standards like HTML, Java, and JavaScript.
