Main clause Future simple Example If we work hard, well finish the project on time. TYPE 0 General Truth Used to express smth which is always true. We can use when instead of if. If clause If + Present simple Main clause Present simple Example If/When it rains, the roads get slippery. TYPE 2 Unreal Present Used to express imaginary situations which are contrary to facts in the present and are unlikely the present or future. If clause If + Past simple Past Continuous Main clause would/could/might + Present Bare Infinitive Example If I didnt have to work such long hours, I wouldnt be so tired. TYPE 3 Unreal Past Used to express imaginary situations which are contrary to facts in the past. If clause If + Past Perfect Past Perf. Cont. Main clause would/could/might + Perfect Bare Infinitive Example If I had been more careful, I wouldnt have made such a mistake.
