2 Biography Born in New England Puritan family, who lived in Massachusetts since the XVII century. Father, Edward Dickinson, was a lawyer and politician who has long served in the House of Representatives and State Senate, was a U.S. Congressman. Mother - Emily Dickinson, born Norcross. Emily was the middle of three children: a brother, William Austin (known as Arista) was a year older than her, and her sister Lavinia - three years younger. The house in Amherst, where Emily Dickinson was born, is now her memorial museum.
