4 Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch. Queen Elizabeth ll is the head of state, but she has no real power. In law the queen is the head of executive branch but in fact her role is mostly ceremonial. She acts on the advice of her minister. In Britain it is Parliament that has the power. Parliament makes laws. It is made up of the House of Lords and the of Commons. The members of the House of Lords are permanent- mostly lords and people who have been made lords fords for life. They have real influence in politics. The Commons have much more real power. The members of the Commons are elected by the people. They control the executive branch and discuss most important political problems.
5 The Monarch: Is the official head of state and an integral part of Parliament in her constitutional role;has mostly representative functions; gives the royal assent to the bills passed by the House of Commons and the House of Lords;is the head of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Government: 1.The Prime Minister (is the head of government; is the leader of the party with majority seats in the House of Commons. 2.The Cabinet (about 20 minister;determines government policies and coordinates government departments. 3.Non-Cabinet Ministers. Parliament. 1.The House of Commons. 1.The House of Lords. 2.The Official Opposition. THE PEOPLE.
6 The British constitution is often called the unwritten constitution because, unlike the constitutions of most other countries, it is not in a single document. Conventions are rules and practices which are not legally enforceable, but which are regarded as vital to the working government.
7 Great Britain and its colonies that united one-fourth of the population. The territory of the Empire was so large that the British said," The sun never sets on the British Empire. Officially the name came into use in the 1870s. The British Empire seized to exist in the 20 th century. The British monarch has served both the Empire and the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth is the head of state not only of one small island nation, but also of the 53 nation of the Commonwealth, with the population of 1.5 billion. In short, she is the head of state to more than one quarter of the earths inhabitants. It evokes a sense of between nation.
8 The largest party in the Commons forms the government and its leader becomes Prime Minister. The people do not elect the Prime Minister directly. Officially Parliament appoints Prime Minister. The Prime Minister chooses the Cabinet and non-cabinet ministers. They are all collectively responsible for the government, the executive branch, and individually responsible for their departments. I think the Great Britain simply ideal state.
