3 If I were a film star, I would be popular all over the world. Look at the pictures. Read and translate the sentences. Pay attention to the words in bold. If I were a famous football player, I would earn a lot of money. Compare: Its a pity I cant play football well. I wish I were a famous football player. Compare: Its a pity I am not an actress. I wish I were a film star.

5 Study the table. Pay attention to the form of the verb in the if-clause and in the main clause. Remember how to express a fantasy or how to speak about an imaginary situation. 1. 6 Study and remember When we talk about an imaginary situation which is contrary-to-fact in the present or in the future, we use the past verb form in the if-clause ( had, knew, were, could ) and the form would + Infinitive in the main clause.
7 If - clause Main clause If it were not raining, If the weather were nice, If Mary were here, If I were you, I would go swimming. we would go hiking. she would help us. I wouldnt do it. In an if-clause were is used for all persons.
