2 The school year in Japan begins in April and classes are held from Monday to either Friday or Saturday, depending on the school. The school year consists of two or three terms, which are separated by short holidays in spring and winter, and a six week long summer break.
4 Age at entry: 6 years Training time: 6 years Classification of schools: -public schools (99%) -private schools (1%) Subjects: -Japanese language -Humanities -Math -Arts and crafts (including calligraphy) -Music -Home economics -Physical education -Moral education
5 Age at entry: 12 years Training time: 3 years Classification of schools: -public schools (95%) -private schools (5%) Subjects: -Japanese language -Humanities -Math -Arts and crafts (including calligraphy) -Music -Home economics -Physical education -Moral education -English language - School tutoring service clubs) )
6 Age at entry: 16 years Training time: 3 years Classification of schools: -public schools (45%) -private schools (55%) Subjects: -Japanese language -Humanities -Math -Arts and crafts (including calligraphy) -Music -Home economics -Physical education -Moral education - English language - special subjects - school tutoring (service clubs)
7 Every Monday pupils line up near the school and listen to the principal over 15 minutes. Duration of lesson: -in elementary school – 45 min; -in junior high school and high school – 50 min; There are smalls intervals between the lessons for 5-10 min and one big interval after the fourth lesson for 60 min; There is no homework in elementary schools, but in high schools the homework can be very large.
8 Every group has a personal classroom. Pupils take off their clothes and have lunch inside the classroom because there are no special areas for it. After lessons all pupils clean their classrooms and other school areas.
9 Pupils of junior high schools and high schools have exams five times during the year. Maximum score on the exam – 100 Subjects: -in the mid-trimester: the Japanese language, Maths, the English language, Natural Science, Social Science -at the end of trimester: all subjects
10 Participation in service clubs is an important part of the learning process. Service clubs: -Sports -Music -Art - others
11 On one weekend schools open their doors to all visitors. Pupils of different classes set various entertainments and educational events such as a cafe, Haunted House etc. Each service club demonstrate their achievements.
