2 French Education System Education in France is compulsory until the age of 16 The French education system is highly centralized, organized, and ramified. It is divided into three stages: -primary education (3-4 years in kindergarten and 5 years in primary school ); -secondary education (4 years in collège and 3 years in high school); -higher education. -

8 After the third grade pupils are able to enroll in the second class of general or technological high school or go to a professional lyceum to prepare for a certificate of professional competence of a particular profession. In lyceums of general type on the basis of exams is given general baccalaureate, giving access to higher education. After finishing a technological lyceum they are to take exams for Bachelor of Technology giving the right to study at the university in their specialty. Professional lyceums do not give access to higher education but you can have a professional baccalaureate after three years in high school(since 2005 year) High School
9 The higher education system in France has a great diversity of universities and courses offered. Most of the higher educational institutions are state-owned and historically subordinate to the Ministry of Education. Higher education in France is organized in three levels or grades : Licence and Licence professionnelle (Bachelor) Master (Master) Doctorat (Doctorate) In addition, the Licence and the Master are organized in semesters: 6 for the Licence and 4 for the Master. 10 1. State universities are open to everybody without any examination. 2. Freedom of speech and personality are brought up in children from kindergarten. 3. The main task is to train children for their exams and for their profession. There is a lot of focus on the key subjects - Maths, French and English, and less on the arts and other subjects. Wednesday afternoons (or all day Wednesday) are often free, and this is when children usually pursue sporting and musical activities. Packed lunches do not exist - the children eat school dinners or go home to eat. The school meals are usually of good quality. 11 Some useful Ideas for the Russian Education System 1. The French kindergarten system could be very useful for Russian kindergartens. 2.
