Highlands
Ben Nevis
He began to write poetry at the age of 15. He was 27 when his first book of poems was published. One of his best poems My heart in the Highlands is devoted to his motherland.
Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow; Farewell to the straths and green valleys below; Farewell to the forests and wild hanging woods, Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
Burns composed verses to the melodies of old folk- songs. Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind, Should old acquaintance be forgot and days of old lang syne. For old lang syne, my dear, For old lang syne We`ll take a cup o`kindness yet, For old lang syne.
He wrote about the life of common people. His poems were full of liberty and patriotic feelings. In his poem Is there for honest Poverty («Честная бедность») burns says that it is not wealth but honesty and kindness that make a real man.
Scotland Lochs.
При все при том, при всем при том, награды, лесть и прочее Не заменяют ум и честь И все такое прочее. Настанет день и час пробьет, Когда уму и чести На всей земле придет черед Стоять на первом месте
Buns was a remarkable lyric poet. Oh, my luve`s like a red, red rose, That`s newly sprung in June Oh, my luve`s like a melodie, That`s sweetly played in tune. As fair art though, my bonnie lass,so deep in luve am I: And I will luve thee still,my dear Till a` the seas gang dry.
The last years of Burn`s life were very hard. He lived in poverty. Раз – овсянка, два-овсянка, И овсянка в третий раз. А на лишнюю овсянку Где мне взять крупы для вас? Век живет со мной забота, Не могу её прогнать. Чуть запрешь за ней ворота, Тут как тут она опять.
Burns fell ill and died on the 21- st of July 1797, being 37 years old. But the name of Robert Burns is still alive. For Scotsmen he is a symbol of national pride.
