1 Nikolai Mikhaylovich Przhevalsky was born on April 12, He was a Russian geographer of Polish origin and explorer of Central and Eastern Asia.
2 Ussuri River from SpacePhoto of Ussuri River His first expedition was to Irkutsk in Eastern Siberia that was lasted two years. Goal of this expedition was to explore the basin of the Ussuri River.
3 Route of the first travel in the Central Asia He intended to be engaged in research of East Tian Shan, to reach Lhasa, to survey lake Lop Nor. In January, 1876 Przhevalsky has presented to Russian geographical society the plan of new expedition.
4 In 1870 Russian geographical society has organised the first expedition to the Central Asia. Przhevalsky has been appointed By its chief. It was his first journey to Central Asia. 6 Przhevalsky died of typhus didin't go through with his fifth journey, at Karakol on the lakeshore of Issyk-Kul in present day Kyrgyzstan. The Tsar immediately changed the name of the town to Przhevalsk. There are monuments to him, and a museum about his life and work, there and another monument in St. Petersburg.
