2 The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are the two oldest universities in Britain, and popular tourist destinations.
3 Both universities are just a name for two large groups of colleges situated in the cities of Oxford and Cambridge.
4 Oxford is about forty years older than Cambridge. There is no exact foundation date, but the university is believed to have been founded around 1167.
5 Cambridge was founded around 1209 by Oxford scholars after a bitter disagreement with local townsmen.
6 Oxford is uniquely beautiful.
7 Its ancient buildings of honey-coloured stone are world-famous.
8 Among these are Christ Church Bridge of Sighs Tom Tower
9 The heart of the university is perhaps the great Tudor dining hall at Christ Church College.

15 On 12 March 1829 Cambridge sent a challenge to Oxford, and the tradition was born, and has continued to the present day.
