SirSir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet, popular throughout much of the world during his time. Born in Edinburgh, the son of a wealthy Scottish lawyer John Walter ( ) and Anna Rutherford ( ), the daughter of a professor of medicine at Edinburgh University. Was the ninth child in the family, but when he was six months, only three survived. In a family of 13 children, six survived.

His childhood was closely associated with the Scottish borderlands (Scottish Borders), where he spent time on his grandfather's farm in Sendinou, as well as in the house of his uncle, near Kelso.
