IT/ information technology – the study of use of computers and other electronic equipment for storing, sending, and developing information.
Hardware – computers and all the machinery and equipment connected with them.
Software – the programs that you put into computers to make them do the job you want
Program – a set of instructions that makes it possible for a computer to do a particular job.
Hard disk – a part inside a computer that permanently stores information and instructions.
Floppy disk – a small flat thing that you can store information from a computer on, that you can remove and use in other computers.
Modem – a piece of electronic equipment that allows information to be sent from one computer to another.
COMPUTERS 2. The Internet
The Internet/the net – a system that allows computer users around the world to send messages and information to each other.
On the Internet ex: Are you on the Internet? You might find some information on the net. Surf the net (= look the information on the Internet in order to find something that interests you)
World Wide Web/ WWW /the Web – the system that stores information for computer users around the world to use.
Online – online services, conversations, games etc are those that take place or exist on the Internet.
Website – a place on the Internet that gives you information about a particular subject or product.
Home page – the first page of a website.
