New Years Day New Years Day celebrates the start of a new year. The celebration begins on December 31 New Years Eve, the night before New Years Day. I like New Years Eve because my parents allow me to stay up the whole night. Our family prepares for this holiday before hand. My father buys and brings home a New Years Tree at the end of December.

I like to decorate a New Years Tree with toys, little colored lights, sweets and a beautiful star on the top. My mother and grandmother prepare our holiday supper and lay the table. We like to see the New Year in at home with our relatives. At 12 oclock we are sitting at the table we say, Best wishes for the New Year! Happy New Year! I usually get many presents on the New Years Eve. We dont go to bed till morning, we watch TV, dance, eat tasty things and make jokes, and sing a song The Fir – Tree was born in the forest.

Traditionally the First Foot should cross the threshold with a lump of coal and silver coins in his hands to ensure the wellbeing of the family for the coming year. Coal helps to make a fire in midwinter, and there shall never be lack of food and drink during the coming year. The First Foot must be a man not a woman. Its a good thing if he is a tall, dark – hared, and handsome man.
