Conditionals Upper – Intermediate Level
Условными предложениями называются сложноподчиненные предложения, в которых в придаточном предложении называется условие, а в главном предложении - следствие, выражающее результат этого условия. И условие, и следствие могут относится к настоящему, прошедшему и будущему. Придаточные предложения условия чаще всего вводятся союзом if если.
Общепринято делить условные предложения на 4 типа в зависимости от того, какую степень вероятности выражает конструкция.

Type 0 Научные факты То, что всегда верно If Present Simple + Present Simple
Type 0 If you heat water, it boils. If I come home very late, I always phone my parents to say I am OK.
Type 1 Реальная ситуация в настоящем/будущем времени If Present Simple + Future Simple/Present Continuous/Imperative
Type 1 If I have a lot of money, I will buy a car. If you go shopping, buy me some bread.
Type 2 Нереальная ситуация в настоящем/будущем времени Если бы…, то…бы… Советы If Past Simple/Continuous + Would infinitive
Type 2 If I had a lot of money, I would buy a car. If we paid more attention to grammar, we would know the language better. If I were you, I would try to find another job.
Type 3 Нереальная ситуация в прошедшем времени Ситуация в прошлом, кот. нельзя изменить Критика, сожаление о прошлом действии If Past Perfect + Would have III form
Type 3 If I had had a lot of money, I would have bought a car last year. If he had told us he was coming over, we would have prepared something to eat.
Type 0 If I do, I do. Type 1 If I do, I will do. Type 2 If I did, I would do. Type 3 If I had done, I would have done.
Mixed Type* Conditional 3 and Conditional 2 If I had taken the medicine yesterday, I would be well now.
Mixed Type* Conditional 2 and Conditional 3 If liked pop music, I would have come to the concert.
Союзы условных придаточных предложений. if – если in case - в случае, если suppose (that) - предположим, что on condition (that) - при условии, что provided (that) - при условии, что unless - если … не (= if not) as long as - пока but for - если бы не (Type 3)
If can be omitted: Should (Type 1) Were (Type 2) Had (Type 3) Come before the subject!
Examples: If you should see her, ask her to come to the party. Should you see her, ask her to come to the party. If I were you, I wouldnt pay anything. Were I you, I wouldnt pay anything. If I had had the money, I would have bought the car. Had I had the money, I would have bought the car.
I wish – хотел(а) бы я … (= If only)
Present meaning I wish + Past Simple Past meaning I wish + Past Perfect Future meaning I wish + would inf.
Examples: Present: I wish I were you. Past: I wish I had not done that! Future: I wish you would stop biting your nails!
Punctuation: If I were you, I would apologise. I would apologise if I were you.
