Smoking and Health Every year about five million people lose (теряют) their lives because of smoking. Smoking is the single most important preventable (предотвратимая) cause of Death (смерти). It causes the two most Deadly (смертельных) diseases (болезней): heart disease and lung cancer (рака легких), as well as other deadly diseases.

What happens? These organs are most Affected (наиболее страдают) by smoking. A cigarette contains (содержит) substance called nicotine, that gives pleasure (удовольствие) to smokers. Nicotine is a Poison (яд). The scientists say nicotine can kill a person when taken in large Amounts (количестве).
