Compare with –er and –est. Suffixes –er (comparative degree) and –est (superlative degree) 1.One syllable adjective e.g. tall – taller – the tallest big – bigger – the biggest 2.Two syllable adjectives ending with –y,-er,-ow,–le e.g. happy – happier – the happiest simple – simpler – the simplest e.g. clever – cleverer – the cleverest narrow – narrower -- the narrowest
