Montmartre is a hill which is 130 meters high, giving its name to the surrounding district, in the north of Paris. Montmartre is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur

In Gallo-Roman era on the hill there were built two temples in honor of the gods Mars and Mercury. The quarry for production of a gypsum, served as a refuge for early Christians. In the Middle Ages, Montmartre was a place of pilgrimage of the faithful.

With the deposit of gypsum of Montmartre was one of the richest areas in the county. The XII century is the beginning of construction of windmills for grinding gypsum and landing of vineyards.

Here lived and worked Renoir, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Utrillo, Apollinaire, the customs Rousseau later - Picasso, Braque, Modigliani. Favorite meeting place for Parisian bohemians were bars and cabarets, such as "Black Cat", "Moulin Rouge" and "Agile Rabbit".

Everyone knows that Pissarro painted views from the windows. Several paintings are devoted to the boulevard Montmartre.

Firstly I saw the views of Montmartre in the film. For the first time I saw Paris with my own eyes in summer Next year I came back to Paris. The purpose of my visit was the Montmartre. These were unforgettable days. Montmartre has quickly become one of my favourite places in the World.
