World languages A world language is a language spoken internationally, which is learned by many people as a second language. A world language is not only characterized by the number of its speakers (native or second language speakers), but also by its geographical distribution, and its use in international organizations and in diplomatic relations.

Some sources define a living world language as having the following properties: large number of speakers; a substantial fraction of non-native speakers (function as lingua franca); official status in several countries; a linguistic community not defined strictly along ethnic lines (multiethnic, pluricentric language);
association with linguistic prestige; use in international trade relations; use in international organizations; use in the academic community; significant body of literature.

English as a world language English is the current lingua franca of international business, science, technology and aviation. It is one of the six official languages of the UN and, along with French, one of the two working languages; the other official languages being Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish.
World Englishes World Englishes refers to the emergence of localized or indigenized varieties of English, especially varieties that have developed in nations colonized by England or the United States.
The characterization of world Englishes is primarily based on the following factors: the history of the types of spread and motivation; for the location of the language; patterns of acquisition; societal depth of the language in terms of its users, and the range of functions that are assigned to the English medium at various levels in the language policies;
functional acculturation of the English language within the local culture and societies and its nativization in the society and its literary culture.
World Englishes include: Australian English (AusE, AuE, AusEng, en-AU) is the form of the English language spoken in Australia; New Zealand English (NZE, en-NZ) is the form of the English language used in New Zealand; Canadian English (CanE, en-CA) is the variety of English used in Canada;
Indian English or South Asian English comprises several dialects or varieties of English spoken primarily in the Indian Subcontinent. These dialects evolved during and after the colonial rule of Britain in India; Singapore Vernacular English, commonly known as Singlish is an English-based creole used in Singapore.
Philippine English is the variety of English used in the Philippines by the media and the vast majority of educated Filipinos;
