Walt Disneys mother Flora Call Disney and his father Elias Disney lived in Acron, Florida. Then the family moved to Chicago, Illinois in In 1906, when Walt was four, Elias and his family moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri, where his brother Roy had recently purchased farmland. While in Marceline, Disney developed his love for drawing. The Disneys moved to Kansas City in There, Walt and his sister Ruth attended the Benton Grammar School where he met Walter Pfeiffer who introduced Walt to the world motion pictures. In 1917 he began taking night courses at the Chicago Art Institute. Disney became the cartoonist for the school newspaper. His cartoons were very patriotic, focusing on World War I.
After his rejection from the army, Walt and one of his friends decided to join the Red Cross. Soon after he joined The Red Cross, Walt was sent to France for a year, where he drove an ambulance.
In 1919, Walt left home and moved back to Kansas City to begin his artistic career. His brother Roy worked at a bank in the area and got a job for him at the Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio. At Pesmen-Rubin, Disney created ads for newspapers, magazines, and movie theaters. It was here that he met a cartoonist named Ubbe Iwerks. Both of them became close friends and decided to start their own art business. In January 1920, Disney and Iwerks formed a short-lived company called, "Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists".

Disney's cartoons became widely popular in the Kansas City area.
Disney and his brother decided to set up a cartoon studio in Hollywood. This was the beginning of the Disney Brothers' Studio. In 1925, Disney met a young woman named Lillian Bounds. After a brief period of dating her,the two got married the same year.

One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where children and parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a "magical park," the more imaginative and elaborate it became.
The original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the Burbank studios where his employees and families could go to relax. Although, World War II put those plans on hold.
Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100-acre site, outside of Los Angeles.
