Information about the author Stephen King is an American author of novels «The Shining» (1974), «Pet Cemetery» (1983), «It» (1986), «The Green Mile» (1996) and many others
The genre of the novel Horror is a genre of literature, that is meant to scare, shock and even repulse audiences. The key focus of a horror novel is to elicit a sense of dread in the reader through frightening images, themes and situations.

The tone The tone of first chapter is very plain and mellow, which allows the reader to inside the story. Near the end of the chapter the tone changes from the slow into dark and forbidding, foreshadowing, what is to come. Stephen King uses it to closely control the suspense in the novel.
