We have seen many fascinating, innovating and surprisingly complicated houses until now, but the Crooked House located in Sopot, Poland is something totally different. This building seems completely unreal, like an image from a childrens book. Tourists from Poland and abroad come here daily to take their photograph next to this architectural wonder. But not only tourists are intrigued by this peculiar construction, but experts as well.
The Crooked House is located in in Sopot, Poland. It was designed by the Polish architects Szotynscy and Zaleski and it measures 4,000 square meters. Naturally, the architects were inspired to design this odd building after studying the artwork of Per Gahlberg and the fairytale illustrations of Jan Szancer. The surrealist details that add uniqueness to the Crooked House are the stone elevation decors, the colorful stained glass entrances and the windows framed with sandstone. Not only these surprise the innocent passer-by, but also the blue-green enameled shingles on the roof that have the role of creating the illusion of dragon skin. The house looks amazing enough during the day, but during the night when it is lighted its appearance is even more unique and intriguing.
Even though the construction was built quite recently it is one of the most famous buildings on the planet and it represents a very important local symbol. The Crooked House can be visited on Sopots popular Monciak Street. It was built in 2004 by the architects Szotyńscy & Zaleski and it was intended as a modern and fascinating project. Now, it is the home of the Rezydent shopping center and due to its peculiar design it can compete without worries for the title the worlds strangest building. Its original name is Krzywy Domek and it is one of the locals favorite places for relaxation and shopping. At the inside, the odd building hosts a very large number of clubs, bars, shops and cafes. Unfortunately, the interior isnt as fascinating as the outside. The stairs are slightly distorted, but there are no major surprising aesthetic details. It is just a regular looking shopping center.
One of the interesting things about the Crooked House is that it has a tradition of allowing those who take part at its cultural events to add their name on its Wall of Fame. Visitors were delighted by this idea and so the Krzywy Domek has created its own version of the American Hollywood Walk of Fame. Claimed to be the most photographed building in Poland, the Crooked House is an architectural marvel, a construction that fascinates due to its surreal design. Naturally, it is considered one of the most interesting buildings in the world and it has won numerous awards for its daring looks.
