CONTROVERSIES Procter and Gamble's original logo was created in 1851 as a large crude cross. This later changed to a man in the moon overlooking 13 stars which is said to remember the 13 colonies. This logo caused a lot of media publicity in the 1980's when rumours spread that the moon and stars logo was a satanic symbol.

CRITICS Greenpeace charges against Procter & Gamble and Unilever for actions by Indonesian raw material suppliers In November 2007, Greenpeace accused Procter & Gamble and Unilever of causing enormous damage to nature. At the same time, they burned forests and dried up swamps under palm plantations in Indonesia, local corporations in the hope of earning, meeting the demand of giant corporations for palm oil. Palm oil is used in cosmetics and skin and hair care products. Poisoning pet food with melamine In early 2007, 2,200 dogs and 1950 cats in the United States died due to kidney failure [33]. The reason was the use of food produced by the largest in North America producer of dry and wet animal feed by Menu Foods Inc. (Ontario, Canada) [34] for more than 100 brands (among them Procter & Gamble) [35]. Procter & Gamble was the only one who identified the cause - the presence of melamine in cereal gluten of Chinese origin - and published toxicological information [36]. According to USA Today, Procter & Gamble assured of strengthening control over the manufacturing company
