Atyrau oblast is the region of Western Kazakhstan. It was founded in 1938 as the Guriyev region. In 1992 it was renamed as the modern name. It borders on West Kazakhstan region in the north, Aktobe region in the east, Mangistau region in the southeast and Astrakhan region in the west. Also, the southern border comes to the Caspian Sea. The regional center is Atyrau.
