Introduction The problem of defining film genre is quite complicated. How many genres do you think there are? Currently, there are about 300 different genres. Why so many? Because it is very difficult to find a certain genre of a film. Genres mix and form new and new variants.
The system of genres The traditional system of genres includes the following genres: Tragedy Tragedy has the following characteristic features: strong dramatic conflict heroes in an insoluble situation catastrophic finale tragic death of one of the characters. Tragicomedy - a genre that combines the characteristics of comedy and tragedy. The tragicomic effect is based on the mismatch between the character and the situation, for example, a comic character in a tragic situation. Gangster movie Gangster movies are about gangsters and their criminal world. Famous movies: Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone), American Gangster (Ridley Scott)
Conclusion There are also a historical film, an action movie, a fiction, a horror film, a political movie and a musical film. However, for example, a comedy is divided into an eccentric comedy, a romantic comedy, a satirical comedy, a musical comedy and some others. And one film can be both a tragedy and a historical film or a western movie or a fiction. So there are many questions about defining a film genre. Film critics are still arguing about how to determine a genre of a film. Some of them only use the concept of a style, not a genre. Others talk that there are no clear genres, only mixing. Who is right? It is a difficult question that nowadays has no answer, and because of this it requires careful consideration and clarification.
