Main point Cambridge is a public research university located in Cambridge, England, UK. The university was formed in It is the second oldest university in English-speaking countries (after Oxford). It is considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in the world. A large part of the population of the city are teachers and students. All students have to live in Cambridge while they study there.
Colleges Cambridge is a collegiate university. It means that the university consists of independent colleges, each with its own property and income. Cambridge has 31 colleges. A college is a group of buildings which form a square with a lawn in the center. The colleges line the bank of the river Cam. They have beautiful college gardens with green lawns and lines of tall trees.
Colleges The oldest one is Peterhouse, which was founded in And the most recent is Robinson College, which was opened in But the most famous is King's College, because of its magnificent chapel. Its choir of boys and undergraduates is well known all over the world.
Colleges The Universities were only for men until 19th century when the first women's college was opened. Later the doors of colleges were opened to both men and women. Nowadays almost all the colleges are mixed.

Organization The University of Cambridge includes King's College Chapel, the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, the building of Library, St. John's College and Addenbrooke's Hospital. The university houses 114 libraries with over 8 million volumes. It also contains eight arts, cultural and scientific museums, and a botanic garden. Among them, the Museum of Zoology, the Museum of Classical Archeology, the Museum of the History of Science, the Polar Museum. To the north of Cambridge is the Cambridge Science Park, the modern face of the University.
Faculties and terms There are 28 faculties in Cambridge, they are for example: economics, philosophy, English, mathematics, history, chemistry, medicine and etc. To get the Degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) students have to study for three years. The students wear a special uniform daily, and full academic dress at the examinations (dark blue or black clothes and black square caps). The academic year in Cambridge is divided into three terms. The first one runs from October till December, the second one – from January till March and the third one – from April till June. The holidays in between the terms include Christmas, Easter and long summer vacations.
Student`s life The students' life is not only hard studying but is also a mixture of different art, sport and social opportunities. Upon arrival, all students automatically become members of CUSU – Cambridge University Students Union. Sport is an important part of students lives. The most popular sport is rowing, there are competitions between colleges and against Oxford – the Boat Race.
