London is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old and beautiful. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. Traditionally London is divided into several parts: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster.
London has many places of interest. One of them is the Houses of Parliament, the seat of the British Government. There one can see the famous Clock Tower Big Ben, the symbol of London. Big Ben is the real bell which strikes every quarter of an hour. Another place of interest is Buckingham Palace. Its the residence of the Queen. Tourists always go to see the ceremony of changing the Guard there.
There are many other places of interest in London: Trafalgar Square, Regents Park, Westminster Abbey and, of course, the British Museum. Crossing the river by the Tower Bridge you can see the Tower of London. It is one of the oldest buildings of the city. Many centuries ago it was а fortress, а royal palace and then а prison. Now it is а museum of arms.
All London's long-past history is told by its streets. There are many streets in London which are known all over the" world. Among them Oxford Street, Downing Street and a lot of others can be mentioned. And tourists are usually attracted not only by the places of interest but by the streets too.
There are many museums in London. For example, the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum. The British Museum is the biggest museum in London. The museum is famous for its library one of the richest in the world.
