Astrakhan is an ancient city.

In 1556 Astrakhan Khanate became a part of the Russian Empire.

The general Cheremisinov Ivan founded a new city with Russian population in 1558.

It was always very important for the Russian Empire.

In 1717 Peter the Great established Astrakhan province. In 1722 Peter the Great visited Astrakhan.

The Tsar guards Astrakhan severely: every year he sends people, food and wood here to build the Kremlin.
