Where have you been, Pete? Oh, Im terribly tired. I have had a long walk around your village Did you enjoy it? Its a lovely place by all means. But some years ago our village was such a pretty place. And I liked so sit on the river bank on a hot summer day. But today the situation is quite different, isnt it? Yes, it is. Some years ago we could catch eatable fish in the Alei. The water is not clean now, the river is polluted. Nothing can live or grow in this polluted water. And the air we breathe isnt clean either. Most of the pollution in big cities comes from cars and buses. And who has seen nuclear pollution?! Nobody has, but its effects can be terrible. If people want to survive they must solve a lot of problems. If nothing is done – nothing will be able to leave on the Earth one day.

Really you wont find a better place to see how man depends on nature! Altai has never known modern industry, so has never tasted environmental pollution. the gifts of mother nature are unique. Despite its huge mental deposits, electric power sources and dense forests, Altai is still far from industrial progress – one of the few places in the world. Tourism offers great economic projects. Unfortunately Altai forests are cutting down and many animals are disappearing now because people hunt and kill them. A lot of rivers and lakes are polluted. Most of the countryside in spoilt. Nuclear explosions in Kazakhstan caused nuclear pollution in Altai we all know how tragic the consequences can be. Nature lowers worry about the future of the Altai. They are together with scientists are economists discussing the problem of turning the area into a giant nature – economic zone, safe for the environment. Its upon you to decide the fate of Altai.
