German cuisine Germany is famous not only for its good quality of cars, but also the unusual cuisine.
Traditional German cuisine Germans like their customs and always follow them.
Germans sit down at the dinner table at least five times a day.
Breakfast A traditional German breakfast consists of bread or muffins with jam or honey, sausage or ham, cheese and fruit, boiled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, porridge, tea or coffee.
Dinner Dinner consists of several dishes: At first snacks are served, then soup, then main dish (potatoes, meat, vegetables), then side dish and the last one is dessert.
Supper At the dinner, which begins at 5 or 6 p.m., cold meal is usually served.
Meat Pork and beef are the main varieties of meat, which are eaten in Germany. The most popular meat is pork. The usual German eats 84 pounds of meat in a year. By the way, there are more than 1500 different types of sausages which are produced in Germany.
Vegetables. The main vegetables in this country are potatoes, carrots, spinach, peas, beans, salad, tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage.
Drinks
Beer The national German beverage is beer. By the way, Germans have a special festival which is connected with drinking beer. It is called «Octoberfest» and people celebrate it in autumn.
Coffee Coffee is served not only for breakfast, but also in the second half of the day with dessert.
Wine Germans who live in the South and South- west of Germany like wine very much.
Bread There are about 600 different varieties of bread in Germany. The importance of bread in German cuisine can be described in some words such as Abendbrot (dinner, "evening bread"), and Brotzeit ("bread time"). Germans have their own Museum of Bread which is situated in Ulm. There, visitors can learn about the history and technology of baking.
Dessert
Fruit salads of chopped fruits that are sprinkled with powdered sugar and poured with fruit sauces or syrups are very popular in sweet dishes. Compotes, jellies, mousses, puddings with all kinds of fruit sauces, ice cream, fruit and certainly natural coffee with milk are also very popular in sweet German dishes.
Baking : Apple Strudel is a real national pride of Germany There are also countless pies and cakes in this country.
Some interesting facts: The first foreign cafe «Ice cream Parlor» was built in 1920, and after that ice cream has become the most popular dessert in Germany.
The history of German cuisine shows that it has appeared recently (1948). But in spite of this fact, it has been developing rather quickly.
