El Greco was a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. "El Greco" (The Greek) was a nickname, as he was Greek. El Greco was born in Crete. In 1577, he moved to Toledo, Spain, where he lived and worked until his death. He received several major commissions and produced his best-known paintings there. There are several paintings by El Greco in the Hermitage Museum, in Saint-Petersburg. One of them is Apostles Peter and Paul.
Tiziano Vecelli, known in English as Titian / ˈ t ɪʃ ə n/ was one the most famous Venician painters. He lived a long life and died when he was about 90 years old. There are 8 paintings by Titian in the Hermitage Museum. One of them is Repentant Mary Magdaline.
