School University (high school) Kindergarten
Kindergarten is not a part of the regular public school system and is not required or free. Tuition is normally based on income. Even though it's not mandatory, over 67% of 3 to 6 year olds attend them. (Many more children would attend if it weren't for the limited space) The Kindergartens are usually run by churches, organizations and private companies.
Education is possible in day schools and boarding schools: in the primary school attended by children from 6 to 12 years, in the middle - between 12 and 16, finally, in high school - 16 to 19. After that, students sit in a final exam, passing the four core subjects to obtain a Certificate of Secondary Education
PRIMARY SCHOOL From the age of 6 through 9 all children must attend primary school. Here they have one teacher that will teach them the basic skills like reading, writing and math and religion. They also have a class where they learn about local history, geography and biology. In addition to their base teacher, they go to separate teachers for music and PE This is also the time where children are evaluated for the next level of schooling. In the 5th and 6th grades (the "orientation grades:) it is decided which track the student will go to next. The decision is based on the students ability, speed of learning, intelligence and/or preference.
G ENERAL SCHOOL The lowest track in the German education system is the General school. It's starts with the 5th grade and goes up through the 9th grade. The General school is a school where the students prepare for occupations that require training. They also continue learning basic subjects as well as English. After a student graduates the General school they can go on to a vocational school which lasts about 2 years
Gymnasium. The most prestigious type of high school is a gymnasium showing a diploma which allows no entrance exams to enter in all higher education institutions. Real school. Training in a real school lasts 6 years, 5 to 10 class. Unlike high school, real school is more oriented to the specialized discipline. Core subjects are taught with a mandatory profile bias. Elementary school. Elementary school provides basic general education, which, as in real school, focused on the choice of future profession. After learning in elementary school students usually come to the vocational school. Joint school. Combined schools provide themselves with the basic features of all these educational Institutions.
After finishing high school there are various ways to continue education: in college, vocational school, or university. In addition to receiving the first higher education study options in Germany are extremely diverse.
