After finishing a technological lyceum they are to take exams for Bachelor of Technology giving the right to study at the university in their specialty. The higher education system in France has a great diversity of universities and courses offered. Most of the higher educational institutions are state-owned and historically subordinate to the Ministry of Education. 1. State universities are open to everybody without any examination. 2. Freedom of speech and personality are brought up in children from kindergarten. 3. The main task is to train children for their exams and for their profession. There is a lot of focus on the key subjects - Maths, French and English, and less on the arts and other subjects. Wednesday afternoons (or all day Wednesday) are often free, and this is when children usually pursue sporting and musical activities. Packed lunches do not exist - the children eat school dinners or go home to eat. The school meals are usually of good quality.
