HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS
On October 31st British and American children celebrate Halloween.
As soon as it gets dark, monsters, ghosts and witches wander around the streets.
Another tradition is to buy a pumpkin, hollow it out and then carve a scary face on it. They put a candle in the centre and leave it in the window or on the front porch. This pumpkin is called a jack-o -lantern.
Children dress up and go from house to house asking for sweets, fruit or money.
They knock on the door and say Trick or Treat? If the neighbour says Trick, they play a trick, a little practical joke. Most people usually say Treat and give the children sweets, or sometimes even money.
Bobbing for apples It is a traditional game in Halloween time. There are many apples in a big basin. The big basin is full of water. Children try to catch an apple with their mouth and teeth. They cannot use their hands!
Usually people crowd together around a fire on Halloween night. And one person tells a scary story in a low voice
