Holidays of the English Year
St.Valentines Day is celebrated on the 14 th of February People buy or make Valentine cards and send them to people they love. They dont sign their cards - you must to guess who sent it.
The 17 th of March is a national holiday in Ireland People wear green clothes and go in the streets. They have a parade. People send greeting cards. A shamrock is a plant with three leaves. It is the national emblem of Ireland.
Easter Day In April or at the end of March English people celebrate it. It is a religious holiday. On Easter Sunday children get chocolate Easter eggs or rabbits.
May Day It is celebrated on the first Monday. Big shops are open and some people go shopping.
Fathers Day is in June. On that day children send cards and give presents to their fathers.
On the 31 st of October – Halloween. People cut down eyes, noses and mouths on the pumpkins and put candles into them. They dress up in a funny clothes and go from house to house and say Trick or treat.
Thanksgiving Day It is celebrated in November. Families come together for the day. They decorate the houses with autumns fruits and flowers and eat traditional American food: roast turkey and pumpkin pie.
On the 25 th of December – Christmas Day People decorate Christmas tree with toys, little lights, coloured balls. On Christmas Eve children put their stockings near their beds. At night father Christmas comes. He has got a big bag of presents for children.
