OLYMPIC GAMES IS THE GREATEST SPORT COMPETITIONS OF ANCIENT TIMES. GAMES BEGAN IN ANCIENT GREECE. THEY HAD BEEN ORGANIZING SINCE 776 B.C. TO 394 B.C. IN OLYMPIA (ALL IN ALL THERE WERE 293 OLYMPIADS). OLYMPIA WAS THE SACRED PLACE FOR GREEKS. THIS PLACE GAVE A NAME FOR GAMES.
Gerakl, Zeus son, came to Olympia, brought a sacred olive branch and founded Athletes Games, which showed Zeus Victory over his Father Kron. Since that time Olympic Games have begun.
It was certainly for ancient Olympics to organize religious ceremonies. According to the tradition, the first day of Games was for giving sacrifices. Women were not allowed to watch Olympics and take part in it. For the first 13 Games Greeks competed only in 1 kind of sport – running. The distance was from 175 meters to 192 meters. It was One Stage.
