England, Scotland and Ireland. The flag was founded in 1606 and its not official but very popular name is «Union Jack» by the name of the King Jacob I, who united flag of the St. Andrew with St. George`s. In 1801 when the Northern Ireland United Great Britain its own symbol the St. Patric`s cross was United to the flag too. Since that time we know the flag of the Great Britain without of any changes. ENGLAND England is the largest and the richest country of Great Britain. In the North it borders with Scotland in the West - with Wales and the Atlantic Ocean in the South it is separated by the Midland and the English Channel, on the East by the North Sea. The climate in England is mild and wet. The coldest month – January, the warmest July.
Midland Midland, a large plain of central England - land of contrasts, where agricultural region is combined with the largest cities of the industrial belt of the country. The most important industrial cities are Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool.

The North of England The North of England has some of the wildest and loneliest parts of the country, but also some of the busiest industrial cities. The main attractions of the North of England are certainly the Lake District, the cities of York and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. York was the capital of Northern England. It was built by Romans, conquered by Anglo- Saxons and ruled by the Vikings.
SCOTLAND Scotland is a country in the United Kingdom to the north of England. Its symbol is a thistle, Its patron saint is St. Andrew. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, well known for its castle. Glasgow is the industrial capital of Scotland.
Glasgow Glasgow is famous for football teams: Rangers and Celtic. Most people in Glasgow are fans of one of teams. A lot of musicians, actors and singers come to Glasgow to give concerts. In cafes small groups sing, play, read poetry.
Edinburgh Edinburgh is rather cold but attractive, very proud but friendly and has a great past. The most interesting parts of the city are the old Town and the New Town.

WALES Wales lies to the west of England. It is a small country, about 130 miles north to south, and in the middle only 45 miles from east to west. Since 1536, Wales has been governed by England and the heir to the throne of England has the title of Prince of Wales.
Wales has its own language, Welsh, and its own history. Welsh is an ancient Celtic language, similar to Breton, spoken in Brittany, France. It is taught in school and some TV program are broadcast in Welch. However, only about 20% of the population speaks Welsh.
