The official name of America is the USA (the United States of America) or the US. The country consists of fifty states. New York (NY) is in the state of New York. It is the largest city in the country, but it` s not a capital. The capital of the US is Washington, D.C.
Welcome to Washington, D.C., my friends. It stands on the Potomac River. And it bordered by the state of Maryland to the north and Virginia to the south. Washington is the capital of the country, its not in any state in the US. The letters DC in the name of the city stand for District of Columbia, in honor of Columbus.
United States Capitol is the tallest building in Washington, D.C- no other building is allowed to be taller than the Capitol. It is the most famous building in the U.S, because this is where laws are made. The Capitol is surrounded by a beautiful garden with many trees.
The Capitol is very beautiful at night.
The National Mall – is the area between the Capitol and the Washington Monument.
Washington Monument. This monument was built in Honor of George Washington. It is 555 feet tall and Provides a panoramic view of Washington, D.C, via Elevator. The Americans call it The Pencil.
This is the Lincoln Memorial, built in honor of Abraham Lincoln with a huge statue inside of it. The Memorial looks like a Greek Temple, and it has 36 columns, one for each state at the time of Lincoln`s death.
The White House. The White House was the largest residential house in America.
It is the beautiful home of every President of the US, except the first president, G. Washington. This is the oldest public building in Washington, and it has the most famous adress in the US Pennsylvania Avenue. Consists of 132 rooms.
The White House is open for visitors from 10a.m. To 12 noon. You can visit The Red Room, the Blue Room and the Green Room.
The Red Room. It is used for small receptions, has long been a favorite of the First Ladies.
The Blue Room. The Blue Room is often used by the President to receive guests The White House Christmas tree is placed in this room.
The Green Room is now furnished as a parlor and used for receptions.
